2022 - World Superbike

World Superbike Circuit Portimão – Portugal 🇵🇹

World Superbike Circuit Portimão – Portugal 🇵🇹

Portimão is a port city located in the Algarve region in the south of Portugal.
This is where the 9th round of the Superbike World Championship took place from October 7 to 9 and it will also be the last round of the 2022 season for the Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha team and its rider Christophe Ponsson.
Remember that Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha is committed this season to Dorna and Yamaha only for the 9 European World Superbike events.
The route of the Portuguese circuit is one of the most demanding in the Championship, it is impossible to claim a performance if you are not physically at 100%!
The Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha rider did well but it was complicated for this last race weekend of the season.
We must not fail in the Superpole at the risk of starting far on the starting grid and unfortunately Christophe made a small mistake which spoiled his qualifying session, we will have to work hard to gain places in the race.
As a result, it was from 25th place that our rider started the first race which was shortened by the race management to 14 laps instead of the 20 initially planned!
The Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha rider will finish this first race in 22nd place, as for the second race which went well over the 20 laps, Christophe Ponsson managed his race very well as he could not claim to be in the points given the circuit and his health problem, he did the whole race behind the former MotoGP Tech3 rider the Malaysian Hafizh SYAHRIN, the Argentinian FIM 1000 Superstock European Champion Leandro MERCADO and the Japanese Superbike Champion of Japan Kohta NOZANE Yamaha official. Christophe Ponsson wisely waited for the last 2 laps to attack these 3 competitors ahead of him, allowing him to overtake them one by one to take the checkered flag in 18th position.

The Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha rider is not in his place, but with his injury from Misano it was complicated for him to do better. The positive of the Portuguese weekend is that the rider Christophe Ponsson manages to fight and put validated experienced competitors behind him, which is a sign of good healing voice.
