From Thursday May 30 to Sunday June 2, the 2nd round of the Spanish Superbike championship took place at the Cheste-Valencia circuit.
Since the 1st event in Jerez, the Gil Motor Sport team and its rider Christophe Ponsson have not been slow, they have worked hard to prepare for this race weekend in the province of Valencia and the tests on this same circuit on 6 and 7 last May were quite promising.
Unfortunately, the team was not rewarded for all its efforts since during the first session on Thursday May 30 at the start of its 5th lap, the Lyonnais rider Christophe Ponsson was the victim of a huge and violent high side at turn 5.
Thrown from his motorcycle without even being able to anticipate his fall, the Gil Motor Sport rider landed hard on his head followed by a series of impressive rolls.
Evacuated by the trackside medical staff quickly to the circuit hospital for a first health check which announced fractures of the right hand, right foot and did not comment on the right clavicle already fractured at the Superbike World Championship in 2022.
The rider Christophe Ponsson remained conscious but following a significant fall on his head, the circuit doctors decided to transfer him to the emergency room of the Manises-Valencia hospital for MRI of the head, X-rays of the fractures and to carry out more in-depth examinations.
After MRI, x-rays and 7:45 hours in the observation room, the emergency doctor submitted his report and asked Christophe Ponsson to go to a center specializing in hand and foot contusions to validate these findings.
After a night of recovery and the organization of his transfer to the Axium Clinic in Aix-en-Provence specializing in hand and foot contusions, Christophe Ponsson is examined by his surgeon who had operated on his scaphoid in 2017 .
In the end Christophe Ponsson has a fracture of the right shoulder blade, a torn ligament with bone in the right ankle, contusions of the right hand and back.
The countdown is on because now begins his convalescence with a program and medical monitoring issued by his sports doctor then numerous sessions of Physiotherapy-osteopathy.
Conclusion :
Gil Motor Sport rider Christophe Ponsson will do everything possible to be ready to attend the next ESBK Superbike round which will take place from July 4 to 7 at the legendary Estoril circuit in Lisbon, Portugal.
However, the game is not won in advance because the fracture of the right shoulder blade is significant and depending on its healing, it could compromise Christophe Ponsson’s participation in the ESBK race in Estoril next July.
