It is not without surprise that the Gil Motor Sport team will be back in WSBK for 2022 while continuing its collaboration with the Yamaha manufacturer and the French driver Christophe Ponsson.
The 2021 season was a mixed year for Gil Motor Sport and his driver given the early-season turbulence. The decision to change members of the mid-season technical team was extremely delicate but beneficial for the rest of the season.
The arrival of new chief mechanic Stuart Millen, two mechanics and the perseverance of Christophe Ponsson allowed them to place 13 times in the points from the Czech round including a 10th and 9th place.
For this second season on the Yamaha R1-WSBK, Gil Motor Sport will work to increase the technical level of their bike to allow his driver to get as close as possible to the official drivers.
Christophe Ponsson – driver: I am very happy to continue with Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha in the World Superbike for a second season. Having had a good evolution in mid-2021 after a very complicated beginning of the year, we will continue what we started to build together with the team. Our bike will be more competitive and I look forward to trying out the improvements in our winter testing program.”
Ophélie Ponsson – team manager: We are happy to be able to repeat a new season in the World Superbike Championship with Christophe Ponsson and the manufacturer Yamaha. We finished 2021 with positive ratings and good results: the pre-season goal of placing in the top 10 was achieved twice. Our team is more than motivated for the coming season!”
