Our history

On January 7th 2005, the decision was made !

Team Gil Motor Sport enters the 2005 Supersport World Championship with the legendary 1999 World Champion rider : Stéphane Chambon.

On January 8th 2005, Gil Motor Sport bought its first wrench knowing that it only had 35 days of preparation left before the motorcycles left for the first race in Qatar on February 26th 2005.

Challenge launched, Team Gil Motor Sport surrounds itself with a competent and qualified team with many years of experience in World Superbike and Supersport.

What those around him thought was unachievable for this young private Team, Gil Motor Sport accomplished it in 2005 with a 7th place for Stéphane Chambon in the general classification. In front of him are 4 official Honda and 2 Yamaha.

Gil Motor Sport is therefore the 1st private team in the general classification

This considerable performance was therefore noticed among the manufacturers and it was on October 2nd 2005, during the Imola race, that the manufacturer Kawasaki entrusted us with the responsibility of representing the brand for the 2006 season as “Kawasaki Satellite Team”.

For the manufacturer Kawasaki it is a test, but above all a challenge as Gil Motor Sport likes them and once again the team proved itself during the 2006 Supersport World Championship.

The perseverance and hard work of the team convinced the Japanese manufacturer who decided on September 3rd 2006 during the Assen race, to confirm Gil Motor Sport as the Official Kawasaki Team for the 2007 Supersport World Championship.

It was therefore in barely 20 months that Gil Motor Sport went from purchasing its first private team wrench to the status of an official Kawasaki team. It is an admirable record accomplished by a team of enthusiasts who translates well the Team anthem “The art of success consists of knowing how to surround yourself with the best”.

For the 2006 season, Gil Motor Sport hires young rider Maxime Berger (3rd in the European 600 Superstock Championship in 2005) alongside Stephane Chambon. For the final round of the 2006 World Championship at Magny-Cours, Gil Motor Sport had to call on 2002 Supersport World Champion Fabien Foret.

It is a privilege for Gil Motor Sport to have brought together the two Supersport world champions within the same team for the last race of Stephane Chambon’s Supersport career.

First season as Official Kawasaki Team

For the 2007 season, Gil Motor Sport named Official Kawasaki Team by the manufacturer, recruits additional qualified mechanics and thus raises its technical level in order to achieve its objective which is to win.

Of all the Supersport teams, it was the Gil Motor Sport team which carried out the largest winter testing programme, which allowed it to be one of the favorites from the first race.

After long negotiations, Gil Motor Sport signed for the 2007 Supersport season with French rider Fabien Foret, 2002 World champion in this same category.

From the first race in Qatar, Fabien, with his 4th place, confirmed the good work done by the team during the winter. Seven days later during the second round of the championship at Phillip Island in Australia, Fabien took pole position and the race victory.

He took second place in the general classification which he would maintain throughout the championship. Arriving at the last round of the championship at Magny-Cours, in France, with a 15-point lead over Broc Parkes, the team and Fabien lost this place of vice-world champion which seemed to be promised to them due to an engine failure.

We will then have to settle for third place in the general classification of the 2007 Supersport World Championship.

For the 2007 season, Gil Motor Sport has also placed its confidence in the Spanish rider Pere Riba

In order to develop the new Kawasaki ZX6RR07, it was important to secure the services of an experienced rider such as Pere.
Indeed, his status as a development rider for the manufacturer Kawasaki allowed him to contribute to the development of this machine from its first laps in Japan.

The 2007 season started very well for Pere with his two 5th places respectively in Qatar and Australia, and a pole position at Donnigton Park in England which would have deserved to be rewarded with a victory. Then in Valencia in Spain, while he was playing for the win, he was hit by Yamaha rider Kevin Curtain.

The end of the championship was unfortunately not favorable to him, so he decided to end his career.
